Athletes
How does Achilles work?
Achilles encourages and supports individuals of all ages and abilities to get active. Whether you walk, run, crutch, crank or roll we are here to help you safely and inclusively achieve your goals. Athletes who need a guide are paired together in local communities and exercise is tailored specifically to each athlete’s unique physical abilities and personal goals. Some athletes just want to exercise for fun and well-being, while others are competitive and may choose to enter road races of all distances. However you move, there is something here for you!
Who can join Achilles CT?
Membership to Achilles is free and open to anyone with a disability or medical condition, including but not limited to persons affected by: amputations, traumatic brain injuries, PTSD, autoimmune diseases, cancer, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, vision impairment, hearing impairment, paraplegia, quadriplegia, stroke, and autism.
Do I need any experience?
No experience is necessary! Whether you are an accomplished athlete or just beginning, there is a place for you as an Achilles athlete. For our competitive athletes, our Chapter participates in numerous races throughout the year with members walking, running, pushing, or handcycling their way to a personal best at each event. Check out the ‘Events’ tab on our home page for our annual calendar.
