2014 Achilles CT Year in Review

2014 YEAR IN REVIEW 

At the end of 2013, Achilles CT had 39 registered athletes and 86 active guides/volunteers.  Here is an overview of 2014 by numbers:

# of new athletes:  31 (Shoreline West-6, Shoreline East-4,  New Haven- 9, Hartford/East- 3, Hartford/West-8, Western CT-1)  Total athletes in the CT Chapter=70

# of new guides/volunteers:  112  (Fairfield-20, Shoreline West-4, Shoreline East-6, New Haven-12-, Hartford/East-14, Hartford West-52, Western CT-4)  Total guides/volunteers in the CT Chapter=198

# of races:  21 in CT; 2 in NYC (Achilles Hope & Possibility and The TCS NYC Marathon)  Total races=23

# of regions holding workouts:  4 (Shoreline West, Shoreline East, New Haven, Hartford/West)

# of corporate donations received:  6 (HJ Hoffman Co., Half Full Brewery, Gaylord Hospital, ESPN/Disney Ears To You Fund, Lincoln Financial Foundation, The McKeen Law Firm)

# of grants received:  3  (New Balance, The Gibney Family Foundation, The Salmon Foundation)

# of Cigna Healthy Lifestyles Grants Received:  3 Cigna employees submitted for a total of 28 races this year!  Thank you Michael Lo Presti-19, Jeremy Byrne-6 and Jeff Amell-3!

# of Fundraisers:  3 with Fleet Feet Sports West Hartford, 3 with Fleet Feet Sports Stamford, 1 with Half Full Brewery, 1 for Hartford Marathon events, ongoing CT Road Safety Initiative fundraiser, YouCaring.com fundraiser, plus countless individual and group donations by cash/check  Total fundraising events= 8

# pieces of new equipment purchased:  1 Force 2 hand cycle to loan to athletes for training and races, purchased with grant from The Gibney Family Foundation

# of new community partners:  6 (Cigna’s Healthy Life Fitness Center, McKeen Law Firm, Fleet Feet Sports West Hartford, Fleet Feet Sports Stamford, Half Full Brewery, Vista Vocational & Life Skills Center)

# of community outreach events:  14  (Fleet Feet Sports West Hartford & Stamford, Gaylord Hospital SCI Support Group, Cheshire Half Marathon Expo, Iron Horse Expo, Expos at 3 Glastonbury River Runners races, Half Full Race Expo, Hartford Marathon Expo, Paralympic Sports Day at Wheeler YMCA, National Federation of the Blind-CT Convention, Cigna Wellness Fair, Cigna Disability Awareness Day, presentation to PT/OT, Prosthetic students at University of Hartford, presentation to Senator-elect Ted Kennedy, Jr.)
