Message from Karen Kantor – Achilles Pikes Peak:
Hey Team! I am a Wounded Vet and athlete for the Achilles International Pikes Peak Chapter in Colorado Springs. This year, our chapter made a commitment to run, walk and roll 4,000 miles to benefit Achilles as a thank you for providing us amazing opportunities to race and socialize as we work together to break down barriers for other adaptive athletes such as ourselves. (We cleared well over 6,000 miles!!)
We are now challenging EACH chapter around the US to join us in this friendly challenge to see which chapter can run, walk or roll the most miles in 2016!!!
Using the FREE Charity Miles app on your phone, you simply turn the app on when you go out for your workout and it logs your miles, while their corporate sponsors (like Humana, Johnson & Johnson and Kenneth Cole, amongst others) donate on your behalf to Achilles! You do not have to ask anyone for money. You simply do the activities you love (or kinda like, or maybe not love so much) and the app takes care of everything. For every mile that is run or walked, you raise 25 cents for Achilles and for every mile biked, 5 cents. (Generally our push rim, hand cyclists and trike users log under bike).
Each team will be given a team name to log miles under (note: AchillesCT is already up and running) and we will do periodic checks to see how the chapters compare across the nation. You can even recruit family members, friends, and strangers to log under your team name as well.
Yours in Running,
Karen Kantor
